We search far and wide for good quality recycled dinnerware and embellishments to assemble our feeders. The feeders are assembled with stainless steel cable and will remain rust free for years. Our goal is to make a long lasting recycled bird feeder that will please the eye, hold up to the weather and bring birds into your yard for hours of bird watching enjoyment.

If you live in an area with high winds or squirrels be sure to hang your feeder securely using a STURDY eyebolt or similar closed loop hardware.  Also make sure that you use metal extensions (no rope or plastic cords) so that squirrels cannot chew though them.

Very easy, just hand wash all feeders with a little dish soap and warm water. Resist the temptation to use a dishwasher as the soap may tarnish the metal. A toothbrush or small nail brush works well to clean between the cup and saucer and clean the screen over the drain hole. After cleaning your feeder let it air dry before refilling. It is also a good idea to disinfect your feeder at least once a month by soaking it in a sink or bucket for 5 to 10 minutes in a mixture of one part bleach to 10 parts water then simply air dry and refill with birdseed. For you folks that experience very cold freezing conditions (in the 20’s) please bring in your feeders.  Not all pottery is created equally even though we do water- seal the holes to protect them, not all pottery will take extended periods of freezing WET weather conditions.

We also would love to drill and assemble your pottery, plates, bowls and tea cups into any of our designs. Just ask!  If you have any questions please just give us a call at 503 777 0741. You can also come on down to the Portland Saturday Market and say hi. Just ask for Susan Ross Recycled Birdfeeders at the Red information trailer when you get down to the Market.
